Dr. Andrea Karlsson is an expert in human rights and Turkish affairs currently working as Program Officer at the European Endowment for Democracy in Brussels. Andrea previously worked for the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Turkey as the head of the Section for Turkish-Swedish Development Cooperation at the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul. Andrea has a PhD in Human Rights Studies from Lund University. During her PhD studies, Andrea was a Visiting Assistant in Research at Yale University’s Center for Cultural Sociology as well as a Resident Fellow at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul. She has also initiated and been running the international summer school Human rights – A recurrent history at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul for five years and has taught at Lund University’s BA program in Human rights. Andrea has contributed to academic and journalistic publications in English, German, Turkish, and Swedish.
