I have over ten years of human rights research experience in the East and Horn of Africa, first for a Ugandan human rights defenders’ network and for the last seven years as Horn researcher at Human Rights Watch. I have investigated conflict-related abuses in Somalia as well as political repression in Ethiopia. My research portfolio has also included terrorism related violence, due process violations in military court terrorism trials, sexual exploitation and abuse by peacekeepers and mental health detentions, and I have produced a string of material highlighting the serious protection concerns of existing displaced communities in Somalia and the rights and security implications of unlawful refugee policies in neighbouring countries.

I studied history for my undergraduate degree and International relations for my masters.
