Brussels Binder Beyond Launches 6 Toolkits to Improve Gender Equality in Public Debates

The Brussels Binder Beyond project has launched 6 toolkits to help all stakeholders improve gender equality in public debates, from women experts to the media and event organisers.

BRUSSELS, 13 January 2021 - The Brussels Binder Beyond (BBBeyond) project has launched toolkits to improve gender equality and diversity in public debates. The six toolkits provide practical solutions to address the topic of gender equality and ensure equal representation according to the position we are in. The following address:

These six toolkits each focus on an important stakeholder who has a role to play. Journalists and editors can find recommendations on how to improve the gender representation of their media content, while men who want to be better male allies, can learn what they can do to promote women’s voices.

In addition to improving the gender balance of panels, event organisers can also discover what they can do to increase the diversity and inclusion of their panels and events by going beyond gender. Two of the toolkits also provide advice and tips for women to not only learn about strategic networking but to also gain the confidence in stepping forward and being visible in public debates.

“Promoting women and more diverse representation in society is a holistic effort”, Emma Rainey, BBBeyond Project Coordinator pointed out. “We wanted this reflected in the toolkits that journalists, event organisers and the men within our networks, all have a role to play. This is why we compiled these lists of practical short-medium term actions that can help towards creating cultural and behavioural change.”

The toolkits were created in a 12-month collaborative process among members of the BBBeyond Network and The Brussels Binder who shared their knowledge and experience to create them. Nearly 40 members of the network, coming from different backgrounds, sectors and regions, contributed to them.

All toolkits can be found at: https://toolbox.brusselsbinder.org/
